OST: Clinical Medicine for the MRCP PACES: Volume 2: History-Taking, Communication and Ethics (Oxford Specialty Training)

DOWNLOAD:

Volume 2 of a two volume MRCP text, this book includes cases which mimic the style and approach of the MRCP PACES exam. Clinical Medicine for MRCP PACES will equip the candidate attempting the MRCP examination with the skills and knowledge necessary for success, and will also provide an overview of evidence-based medicine for competency-based training. Throughout this and Volume 1, the authors explore all aspects of the candidate’s performance, from clinical examination, to presentation, communication and medical ethics and up-to-date clinical evidence.

Volume 2 includes 75 cases and covers Stations 2 and 4: Station 2 covers history taking skills; Station 4 covers communication skills and ethics. This book follows a structured approach to history taking and communication issues, which not only facilitates learning and understanding, but is also required for other workplace based assessments. This book will continue with the theme of Volume 1, in providing candidates with an accurate, authoritative, evidence-based companion for both the MRCP examination, and postgraduate training in the MMC era.

Advance praise for Clinical Medicine for MRCP PACES:

“The authors have produced two volumes packed with the information needed to pass PACES and to practise high quality medicine. While written specifically for those aspiring to be physicians these volumes deserve to be widely read by all with an interest in clinical medicine. Candidates in particular and patients have good reason to welcome these volumes.”

This book represents a valuable resource for medical students and training otolaryngologists. Residents need consise and quick information and this is what “Otolaryngology: Basic Science and Clinical Review” will provide for them. The text is organ-specific with an introduction of basic principles that underlie patient care. A “must” for prospective and practicing otolaryngologists alike.

Review

“Provides a review of the basic and clinical sciences that are the foundation for the practice of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. The topics included are quite diverse, covering the expansive range of knowledge needed for a complete understanding of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Many of the topics are approached from both a basic science and clinical viewpoint. Clinical correlations, which help to make the information relevant for residents and practicing otolaryngologists, accompany many of the basic science principles presented. The Self-Test Questions, for which answers are provided at the end of the book, are very helpful for the reader to assess his or her understanding of the concepts presented. This textbookprovides a clearly presented and thorough basic and clinical science foundation, which is fundamental to the understanding and practice of otolaryngology. No other textbook in otolaryngology-head and neck surgerycurrently serves such a purpose. This book would be an excellent text for otolaryngology residents to read cover-to-cover early in their residency training. Indeed, as it was developed from an otolaryngology basic science course, it would serve as an outstanding textbook for use in other such courses in training programs throughout the country. The book would also be useful as a review text for residents before the annualOtolaryngology Training Examination or for recent residency graduates preparing for the boards. In addition, it would be a good reference for practicing otolaryngologists, providing an update on the current state of knowledge in the basic and clinical sciences underlying our diverse specialty.”–The Laryngoscope

“Recommended for ENT specialists and residents who wish to keep up with the advances of the basic sciences that impact the medical and surgical practice of the specialty.”–B-ENT

“Presents a review of the basic science material that [residents] are required to master…There are no other books in the field like this one…recommended.”–Doody’s Book Reviews
